The AU Libraries offer a variety of research tools and databases that are incorporating AI. Most of our databases were not built with AI in mind but are incorporating them for summarizing, suggesting citations, and enhancing searches. We do offer one research tool that was originally built to use AI, Keenious, which is detailed below.
Most of our library databases that are not powered by AI are incorporating AI to provide summaries of searches and articles. These are signaled with phrases like "AI Powered Research Assistant." Please be wary of these summaries. AI cannot actually summarize articles because it cannot understand the most important pieces the way a human expert can. Instead, AI shortens the text, sometimes missing important elements. AI is also liable to make up false information that does not appear in the article.
All Alfred University students, faculty and staff have access to Keenious, an AI-assisted research discovery tool.
Rather than entering search terms into a search bar, users provide Keenious with a whole or selected portion of a document. Keenious then analyses this text via AI natural language processing and recommends relevant articles and related topics. Keenious can be integrated into Word and Google Docs, or used in your web browser by uploading a PDF or cutting/pasting a block of text. Try it out here: Explore Keenious
