This guide introduces students to important resources and concepts for being an informed voter.

Preparing to Vote & Using This Guide

There are several steps that you will need to take to prepare to vote:

  • Register to vote - you can vote in New York or in another state if your home address is in that state.
  • Learn about the candidates and what is on the ballot
  • Stay informed about upcoming elections and know how to avoid misinformation
  • Find your polling place

In this guide you will find helpful information on the following tabs:

  • Preparing to Vote - how to determine where to vote and registering to vote in the appropriate state
  • Bias and Misinformation - provides an overview of bias and misinformation and introduces a strategy for fact checking and understanding bias called lateral reading.
  • Voting Guides & Political Information - a selection of non-partisan voting guides, as well as websites that provide political information from different perspectives.

Vote!

The presidential election day in 2024 is November 5. Once you have completed the steps in this guide you will be ready to vote.

On November 5, show up to your election place (if you haven't already submitted an absentee ballot) and cast your vote!

The polling place assigned to folks living in Alfred Village is 4 S Main Street, Alfred NY 14802. This includes students who registered here in Alfred using the campus address.
