Voting: Preparing to Vote

This guide introduces students to important resources and concepts for being an informed voter.

Where should I vote?

Many students have temporary addresses in Alfred and permanent addresses in their home states. You can choose to vote in either location, and this is personal choice. Some things to consider when choosing your voting location:

Voting in New York

1. Register to vote online: NYS Online Voter Registration

2. You will receive a postcard in the mail with your polling place information.

3. Check Vote411.org to confirm your polling place.

Voting in your home state with an absentee ballot

1. Check your state's deadlines for absentee voting to make sure you have enough time

2. If you haven't already, register to vote in your hometown: Vote.gov

3. Request an absentee ballot: NASS.org

4. Mail your absentee ballot
