Alfred University Libraries student employees guide: Home

This libguide will offer documentation and resources used by Alfred University Libraries' student employee program.

About our student employee program

Alfred University is a small, private university in the Southern Tier of New York State. It is also the home of the New York State College of Ceramics, a SUNY institution. The university currently has a student body of approximately 1450 undergraduate students and 450 graduate students and two campus libraries, each with their own unique focus and collection:

  • Herrick Library, which houses a comprehensive collection supporting the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, and Graduate and Continuing Studies, as well as the University Archives.
  • Scholes Library, a SUNY library, which houses a specialized collection supporting the School of Art and Design and the Inamori School of Engineering, as well as Special Collections.

Between both campus libraries, we employ approximately 60-70 undergraduate students and 2-4 graduate students. While a majority of them work in Public Services, we also have student employees in Collection Management and Archives. Over the years we have developed a collection of documentation, forms, and spreadsheets to manage a student employee program of this size and are happy to share with other academic libraries who employ students. Please use the tabs above to navigate to different aspects of the "life cycle" of our students.
