Black Glass Artists Series

In 2021 Alfred University student School of Art and Design student, Adeye Jean-Baptiste proposed an artist series with glass artists who hail from the afro diaspora. Finding support from the SOAD, the Sculpture Dimensional Studio Division, Student Senate, and  Olympic Color in Seattle the proposal has become a reality with the series starting in the first week in February 2022. The Artists from across the US will share their expertise and knowledge of glass making by leading workshops and doing public talks about their own work. A fundraiser was held in October of 2021 and raised $5000 to support the artist series. Each Artist will be in residence for a week and will create an original work to be exhibited at The School of Art and Design as a part of The United Nation’s International Year of Glass.

Following their AU residency, each artist will attend a residency at Corning. Angus Powers was instrumental in securing the Corning residencies and donations of materials from Olympic Glass for the artists' demonstrations at AU.
