Interlibrary Loan and Resource Sharing

Resources sharing services for accessing materials from other institutions.

Requesting Items Through ILLiad

Log onto the ILL site (ILLiad) using your Alfred University username and password. The first time you use the ILL site you will need to register.

The ILL site you will use depends on your primary program:

Herrick Interlibrary Loan – College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, College of Business, School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, other private-side AU affiliated students, faculty, or staff.

Scholes Interlibrary Loan – School of Art & Design, School of Engineering, other NYSCC affiliated students, faculty, or staff.

Requesting Items in Primo

If you find a book or article in Primo that Alfred University Libraries doesn't have access to, you can request that item directly in Primo by following the prompts. View instructions for this process below.

Types of Requests

When Alfred University Libraries don't have access to a resource -- for example a book we don't own or an article we don't have a subscription for -- we can usually get it from another library.

There are two services through which these loans are coordinated:

SUNY Resource Sharing: Libraries throughout the SUNY system loan books to students, faculty, and staff, no matter which SUNY institution is their home campus.

ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan): This is a worldwide network of libraries that loan books, articles, and other materials.

For users, items found through Primo (the library search interface) are requested the same way. Requests can also be manually entered in the ILLiad interface.
