The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum at Alfred University houses nearly 8,000 ceramic objects ranging from small pottery shards recovered from ancient civilizations to modern and contemporary ceramic art.
A collection of notebooks and tools from the studio practice of Val Cushing; these objects are documented as a record of their exhibition at Scholes Library at Alfred University in 2019.
The exhibit showcased Grinding Room glaze research that was completed with the intention of creating a series of documents to augment the resources provided in the “Cushing’s Handbook.” These Visual Companions and other technical resources are available in Material Research.
The Grinding Room is the raw materials research hub for the Division of Ceramic Art at Alfred University. Our mission is to support the ceramic research community of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

First launched in 2000, the Timeline extends from prehistory to the present day.
Over 170,000 ethnographic objects from North American, Mexican & Central American, South American, African, Asian, Pacific and European collections with images and description, catalog pages, field notebooks, and photographs are available online.
Color Theory TutorialOn the site, visitors can learn about the basics of color, complementary colors, and concepts such as contrast, dominance, proportion, and intensity. The site is rounded out by a very good Resources area, which contains a bibliography of recommended works
