Learning Commons

Student and librarian looking at books in the learning commons.The Learning Commons on the first floor is a non-quiet work space. Technology in the learning commons includes public computers, a printer, and a scanner. Tables and chairs can be arranged for individual or group work.

 

BookEnd Lounge

A sink, microwave and Keurig are available for patron use; coffee and tea pods may be purchased at the front desk, or patrons are welcome to bring their own. 

In partnership with the Wellness Center, a mini food pantry is available with nonpersishable food and personal care items. The main Alfred University Food Pantry location is in the Judson Leadership Center.

Board games and current newspapers / magazines can also be found in the BookEnd Lounge.

 

Computer Lab

Students and instructor using computer lab as a classroom space.The computer lab on the first floor (opposite the library's front desk) has public computers and a printer. This room is occasionally used for classes (see the online schedule for times when the room is not available).

The computer lab has desktop computers (PCs), a printer, and presentation equipment (projector, sound system, white board, and document projector).

 

Group Study Rooms

Group study roomThree group study rooms are available on the bottom floor of the library. There is one group study room available on the main level.  Each room is decorated with a different theme and incorporates student artwork or University memorabilia. These rooms are suitable for 2-6 people and have white boards.

24-hour Computer Lab

Picture looking into the 24 hour study room.The 24-hour computer lab on the ground floor of the library is open all night to Alfred University students when classes are in session. The room has public computers, a printer, and wireless internet access. Vending machines and restrooms are also available.

When the library is closed, the room is accessible via the library entrance on Park Street, across from The Brick and requires an access code. To obtain an access code students should bring their current Alfred University student ID to the Herrick Library front desk during open hours.

Meeting Rooms

Herrick has three meeting rooms that can be reserved by Alfred faculty, students, and staff.

Seminar Room 106 (first floor)
Seats a small-medium sized group and is equipped with projector and sound system.

Conference Room 202 (second floor)
Seats a medium sized group and does not have AV capabilities.
